HEINLEIN’S RULES FOR WRITING

I was reminded of these tonight. I have spent a great deal of time this Christmas thinking about my writing. I have reached another point where, when I thought I knew what I was doing, I realized I knew practically nothing. As a result, I really need to re-dedicate myself to the writing that God has called me to. I need to re-dedicate myself to Him. I need to re-dedicate myself to being a vessel for His truth.

There are more than 60 instances of the word “write” in the New Living Translation of the Bible. Many of those are God’s instructions to “write this down”.

In Isaiah He says in chapter 30:8  Now go and write down these words. Write them in a book. They will stand until the end of time as a witness.”

I intend to follow that command this year.

There is also wisdom to be gained from secular writers about writing. Here is some advice from Robert A. Heinlein. He wrote some of my favorite science fiction.

HEINLEIN’S RULES FOR WRITING
—————————-

1. You must write.
2. You must finish what you write.
3. You must refrain from rewriting, except to editorial order.
4. You must put the work on the market.
5. You must keep the work on the market until it is sold.

May God bless you and your writing this year.
